Water Supply Crisis in León Affects Thousands

A problem in a main well of the Drinking Water and Sewerage System of León (Sapal) has left more than 30 neighborhoods in the city without service, affecting thousands of families. The complete list amounts to over 30 affected areas, mainly in the central and western parts of the city.

Residents of some affected neighborhoods have expressed their dissatisfaction, stating that the amount of water distributed through tanker trucks implemented by Sapal is insufficient. Additionally, they complain that information about the outage was not disseminated in a timely manner. These types of outages are not new to them and are occurring with greater frequency, causing frustration among the population.

Enrique de Haro, director of Sapal, explained that the well in question supplies 180 liters per second and operates continuously. However, a failure in one of the main components has led to the lack of supply, affecting numerous neighborhoods. The necessary parts to repair the well are being processed at a company in Querétaro, with the expectation that they would be ready in the days prior to restore service. However, delays in repairs have prolonged the situation.

In light of the water shortage, authorities are asking the population to ration the available liquid, while waiting for the problem at the well to be resolved. The neighborhoods affected by the lack of supply include Barrio de Guadalupe, El Coecillo, San Juan de Dios, Valle de Jerez, Villas del Jerez, La Martinica, San Pedro Plus, among others. Meanwhile, residents continue to await a resolution to this situation that has left them without water for several days.
